2007 Mission Trip Prayer Sheet

Saturday, March 17 – Today we leave Omaha and spend the day flying to Dallas and Los Angeles. Remember our families as they make the adjustment to our leaving.

Sunday, March 18 – Today we spend all day flying to Australia, Port Moresby and arrive in Hoskins. We will have spent almost 25 hours in the air and 20 hours in airports in order to get to Hoskins. It is already Monday in PNG.
Monday, March 19 – People will be arriving at the conference today. Tonight will be a potluck fellowship with everyone at the conference. This will be the first time everyone is together.
Tuesday, March 20 – This will be our first full day at the conference. Today will be the day to remember Cheryl, Gloria, and Michelle in your prayers. They will be getting used to cooking for the large group.
Wednesday, March 21 – This is our second full day. PJ is preaching 2 times each day. Jimmy is working on the computers on the base and will be doing a seminar for the missionaries. Jared will be working with the entire sports program for children, teens, and families.
Thursday, March 22 –We are cooking a breakfast for all the men this morning. The ladies will have an evening out tonight. Pray that this is an encouraging time for everyone.
Friday, March 23 – Today is the last day of the conference. Chuck and John have to finish up all the projects they have been helping with on the base. The team will be packing tonight and leaving in the morning. This will be a hard day to say goodbye.

Saturday, March 24 – We are leaving Hoskins for a short plane ride to Rabaul. We have the team, the Kunzers and Aaron traveling together. At Rabaul, we will be taking 3 boats overseas to Bom. Pray for calm seas, good weather, and safe travel for all 16 of us.
Sunday, March 25 – This is our first full day on the Island. We will be assigning projects today. The main goal is to start preparing the boat for fiberglass.
Monday, March 26 – Today we are finishing the preparation of the boat. Other team members are replacing rotting beams and doing repairs on 3 houses.
Tuesday, March 27 – Today we are hoping to install and fiberglass the floor in place. The ladies will be helping Aaron get his house ready to seal up while they are gone.
Wednesday, March 28 – This is our last day on the Island. We need to get all projects finished and pack things up to return home. It will be a very hard time on everybody, because the goodbyes are very difficult.
Thursday, March 29 – We are leaving at about 4am to get on a boat to go back to Rabaul. We need calm seas and good weather. We then spend the rest of the day flying to Sydney, Australia.
Friday, March 30 – We have spent our first night with plenty of hot water and are finally dry for the first time in 2 weeks. This is where we lose a day.
Saturday, March 31 – We still have a long day on the plane ahead of us. We are leaving Australia at 9:45 am this morning, travel 13 ½ hours and arrive in LA at 5:05 am. Then we fly to Chicago and finally land in Omaha at 6:10 pm this evening.

Praise & Prayer

We now have every one's Passport. This is big answer to prayer. Every Passport came in about 2-4 weeks earlier than expected.

The next big request is for the work visa issue. We are still waiting to hear from New Tribes regarding the requirements for the Work Visa's. We cannot proceed any further in the planning of the trip until we have this information. Please keep this matter in your prayers.

Hi there everyone!

We hope this finds you all doing well. We haven’t sent an e mail to all of you in a very long time and we do apologize.

Back in April, Tammy’s mom became very ill. She had been ill for quite a while but her health was getting worse. We sought the Lord and He provided the money for the girls and Tammy to get home. Tammy and the girls were able to be in the states for several weeks and had some precious time with her mom and made many wonderful memories. Tammy’s mom isn’t saved and Tammy and the girls had great opportunities to share the Lord with her. She didn’t receive Christ when they were there but we know that God planted seeds. Please pray for Tammy’s mom, Jean. Her health is still poor. She will not get better. We just pray and wait.

Butch stayed in the tribe and did language and culture study. It was a good time for him but he said it was just too quiet and he missed us as well.

Tammy and the girls got back from the States in July. It was so good to see Butch again. We had never been apart for that long. We immediately got to work on our house (cleaning and organizing) and our partner’s house as it had been closed up for a year and were due to get back soon. Aaron and Lori returned from their furlough in August. It is good to have them back. We have been busy getting back into home schooling (we have four in school this year), language study, and culture study.

Now we are gearing up to start our literacy program with the Patpatar people. We have lots to do. We will be getting together with the leaders of the tribe and will figure out where to hold the classes, who will attend our first class, and we will be getting all of our materials together. It is exciting to be moving into another phase of our work out here. The people seem to be excited about the upcoming classes as well.

Also, Butch has had another language evaluation. It was good to see what things he needed to work on and have some direction in his language study.

We would appreciate your prayers. Here are some things to pray about:

• - success of the upcoming literacy program
• - that we would continue building relationships with the people out here
• - our health to remain strong
• - home schooling; that we would learn all that God wants us to and have teachable hearts
• - language study; that we would learn quickly
• - safety in traveling on the sea and the roads here
• - Butch’s language evaluation on October 11th

A volcanic eruption on the Papua New Guinea island of New Britain yesterday caused panicked residents to flee homes and sent ash plumes 18 kilometres into the air.

Mount Tavurvur on the outskirts of the former provincial capital Rabaul erupted around 8.45 am local time with a blast which shattered windows up to 12 kilometres from the caldera.

"It was quite scary, but it's quiter now and has quietened considerably through the day," Rabaul Volcanological Observatory chief surveyor Steve Saunders told Reuters.

In 1994, a large eruption on Mt Tavurvur and the nearby Vulcan peak destroyed much of Rabaul, covering the airport and much of the town with ash, and forcing the construction of a new capital, Kokopo, 20 kilometres away.

PNG's Mining Department said in a volcano bulletin that ash was falling on Kokopo, causing power and phone cuts.

Saunders said magma had been welling up inside the 688 metre (2,200 foot) peak since 2005 and contained large amounts of gas, which accounted for the explosive force of the eruption.

"Today looks like the activity it has been building up to, so it should fall off now," he said.

Saunders said vulcanologists expected the peak to quieten quickly, but the volcano was still surrounded by gas and dust, making it hard to assess damage amid rumours lava had flowed from a previously unknown vent. There were no reports of death or injuries.

Rabaul Chamber of Commerce President and hotelier Bruce Alexander told Australian Associated Press that around 2000 people - or 90 percent of the local population - had fled the town as Mt Tavurvur erupted.

All flights into Tokua airport across the harbour from Rabaul had been cancelled due to ash falls.

Papua New Guinea lies on the Pacific Ocean "ring of fire", and earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are common.
